This spherical sculpture is crafted from the collar of a linden tree sourced from Cercina, Florence. The collar is the transitional area between the roots and the trunk—rich in history and vitality. Portions of the original bark have been preserved on the sphere, and small white fungi visible on the surface tell of the natural life that once thrived in the tree.
The shaping process involved burning and brushing the turned section, a technique that highlights the wood grain and creates a unique texture. Shellac was then applied to give the surface a lustrous finish.
Through this sculpture, the memory of the tree is preserved and celebrated, offering a new dimension to its past existence.
