Nuvole: Series of vases in fig and cedar wood
The Nuvole (Clouds) series was born from a desire to explore the relationship between living wood and the passage of time — between the precision of the artisan’s gesture and the natural freedom of the material to transform itself. Each vase is turned from fresh, unseasoned wood, allowing the living matter to continue changing over the months and years — deforming, moving, breathing.
The fig wood Number 01 vase is an homage to the spontaneity of nature: after turning, they were not forced to maintain a fixed shape. Leonardo Cappellini chose to let the wood follow its own destiny — to deform, to reveal its internal tensions on the surface, creating irregular volumes, unexpected curves, small cracks, and knots that tell of the material’s vitality and fragility.
Each fig wood vase is a unique organism, a form that evolves, a testament to how living matter retains its own will even after being shaped by human hands.
