Daniela Daz Moretti

ARTIST, UDINE, ITALY

Daniela Daz Moretti is an Italian artist whose practice explores memory, fragility, and the poetics of form through ceramics and sculpture. Her work unfolds through a minimal and introspective language, where material

becomes a threshold between presence and absence.

“My work is guided by the image of the nest: a threshold between belonging and abandonment, between the visible and the invisible.”

Daniela Daz Moretti (b. 1978, Recale) is an Italian artist and ceramicist whose practice spans sculpture, monotype, and installation. Trained in Literature at La Sapienza University in Rome, her work originates in writing and poetry, which continue to inform her visual language and conceptual approach.

Her encounter with ceramics marked a shift towards a material and spatial investigation, where form emerges through an intimate dialogue with clay and refractory materials. Her works are characterised by a minimal and essential aesthetic, where gesture, surface, and void become central elements in shaping meaning.

At the core of her practice lies the archetype of the Nest (Nido), a recurring form that embodies belonging and abandonment, protection and openness. This symbolic structure functions as a threshold between the visible and the invisible, where memory, absence, and emotional experience converge into a suspended and contemplative space.

Working primarily with unique pieces and limited editions, Daniela Daz Moretti emphasises the value of irreproducibility and the intimate relationship between material, gesture, and time. Her works, often marked by porous surfaces and subtle imperfections, preserve the trace of their making and the fragility inherent in the process.

Through her practice, she creates objects and environments that invite stillness and introspection. Her sculptures are conceived as silent presences—spaces of reflection where viewers are encouraged to engage with their own emotional memory, navigating the delicate boundary between presence and absence.
